We started our course of ICT for Teaching in Jaén, Spain with nerves and a little apprehension about spending a week working with a topic that is not always easy for us as teachers. But after a full week, with our laptops and lots of input from our international teachers, Stephanie, Jesús Alonso and Jesús López-Peláez, about Information and Communication Technologies – we happily stepped into and began to explore the limitless and fascinating world of ICT!
Our group of 15 teachers was made of 5 nationalities; Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, France and Slovenia. There was a great mix of subjects and teaching levels, stretching from lower Primary to Vocational School, from Music to Biology. Together we discovered how we could apply different skills we already have and those we acquired during the course to our classes. This was presented not only in a teacher-led atmosphere, but also by showing us how students can use these skills at different cognitive levels and create their own materials and content.
Our learning was surrounded by the beautiful and historical city of Jaén and its surroundings. We learned a lot about the history of Spain, in particular, the area of Andalusia. This was facilitated by great guides on our visits to the World Heritage Sites of La Alhambra in Granada, and the historical towns of Úbeda and Baeza (Jaén).
